Sept. 19, 2019, Mercier, Que. – Firefighters in Mercier southwest of Montreal have managed to get the fire in Saint-Philomène church under control, but the historic building has been heavily damaged. A spokesperon for Mercier said it was a police officer who first spotted the fire at Sainte-Philomène church around 6:10 Thursday morning and notified the fired department.
