House fire leads police to marijuana grow op

Feb. 24, 2016, Adolphustown, Ont. - Provincial police say a house fire has led to drug charges against a 46-year-old eastern Ontario man.

Police say officers checking the property with firefighters after last Friday's fire discovered a marijuana-growing operation inside the garage of the home near Adolphustown, Ont.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze – which resulted in extensive damage to the home – but the cause remains undetermined.

Investigators say the marijuana growing operation was elaborate and say they seized 64 mature plants from the garage and 98 clones from the home.

An Adolphustown man is facing two counts of production of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
