Man charged with arson after string of fires in Newfoundland

May 9, 2013, St. Georges, N.L. – A Newfoundland man has been arrested after police say there were a series of deliberately set fires that burned everything from playground equipment to an excavator.

Officers say a 21-year-old man from St. Georges was arrested Wednesday after a lengthy investigation and faces 10 counts of arson and two counts of break and enter.

Police have not yet released his name.

Investigators say the fires broke out over the course of more than a year and took place mostly in St. Georges.

Vehicles, sheds and a house were also set ablaze and sustained various levels of damage.

There were no injuries and police say the total value of the damage is not known.
