Man saved after attempting river rescue
Jan. 18, 2016, Peterborough, Ont. - A man was saved, but his dog's life was lost, after his boat was stuck on an ice shelf in a Peterborough, Ont., river.
Fire services say the man's little dog went through the ice on the Otonabee River on Friday night, and he was trying to rescue the animal from his canoe.
They say firefighters used immersion suits to help pull the man back to shore.
The dog was not found.
Fire officials say ice conditions in the city are unsafe.
