The flames spread quickly because of the wind conditions and the presence of vegetation. At least thirty firefighters rushed to the scene to control the fire that covered an area of about one square kilometre.

The fire department was alerted late Monday afternoon, and by 8 p.m. its work was almost finished.

Multiple fires were burning in the affected area, firefighters said, adding that there was little chance the fires started accidentally.
