More MFCA musings
July 14, 2010
The galling story of a thief in Windsor, Ont., who is stealing brass fittings from apartment building fire hoses is even more astounding than the theft of belongings from volunteer firefighters’ vehicles in Bayfield, Ont. – while they were responding to a call.
Windsor police say that in the last six months more than 125 fittings have disappeared, presumably sold for scrap metal.
Makes you wonder what’s next.
You can read the Windsor story here and the Bayfield story here.

As promised,
some photos below from the Maritime Association of Fire Chiefs conference last
week in lovely Yarmouth, N.S. Congrats, again, to Lynn Seeley
and the Yarmouth County Mutual Aid Association for a fabulous week!
Aside
from the conference, the seafood was, of course, amazing. But I had to wonder
about the lobster poutine on the menu at a local restaurant that was deemed
spectacular by one N.S. firefighter. Sure, it’s unique and enticing but, to my
mind, why ruin good lobster?

Most Canadian fire chiefs associations have longstanding traditions. The MFCA parade to the Sunday evening memorial service is a moving and formal affair. Outgoing MFCA president Bernie Turpin (centre) enjoys the evening stroll. |
