Newfoundland couple dies in house fire

Jan. 6, 2014, Bonavista, N.L. – Police in eastern Newfoundland say a husband and wife in their 50s were killed in an early morning house fire today.

RCMP Sgt. David Hains says they received a call from a neighbour just before 7 a.m. about a fire in Bonavista and responded with the local fire department.

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze at the home, which was damaged but still standing.

Police say autopsies will be done on the victims, whose identities had not been released.
