May 2, 2013, Saskatoon – One person was taken to hospital after a fire at an apartment building in Saskatoon.
It happened this morning at the corner of 8th Street and McKercher Drive.
Assistant Fire Chief Glenn Ledray says the fire started on the third floor of the building, but they don't yet know what caused it.
Ledray credits a fire wall halfway through the building and the quick response from fire crews for stopping the fire from creating more damage
This is fire damage to the third floor of the building and water damage to the first and second floors.
Jennifer Bogdan lives in the apartment building on the other side of the fire wall, but she was waiting to see when she could get back inside.
"We haven't been told anything from the building manager or any of the firefighters or anything like that," she said.
"So, I guess we just have to sit back and wait and be patient and just be thankful we made it out."
Another man who lives in the building said he found about the fire when the alarm went off and someone pounded on his door.
"Some guy banged on the door (and) told us that it's a real one," he said.
One person suffering from smoke inhalation was taken to hospital.
