The federal government has announced an interim payment of nearly $23.7 million to Saskatchewan to help with recovery costs associated with major spring flooding in 2015.

The money is being provided through the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements program after rainfall totaling between 50 to 100 millimeters caused flooding that damaged homes, farms, businesses and infrastructure.

Eligible expenses under the program include evacuation operations, restoring public works and infrastructure and replacing or repairing essential personal property of individuals, small businesses and farmsteads.

Federal Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says the payment announced today will support recovery and rebuilding efforts as Ottawa and the province work together to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
