Sept. 14, 2012, Peachland, B.C. – An emergency official says the wildfire that destroyed four homes in the Okanagan community of Peachland, B.C., is now 100 per cent contained.
The blaze broke out Sunday in a ditch outside the municipality and quickly spread in high winds, forcing 1,550 people from their homes.
By Wednesday morning, only 258 people were still out of their residences under an evacuation order, but they were allowed to go home by the evening.
Fire information officer Kevin Skrepnek says crews are mopping up the blaze, working their way in from a perimeter.
He says residents will still see smoke in the coming days as crews extinguish the fire's remnants.
Officials have said no people or animals were injured in the fire, and they don't yet know its cause.
