August 21, 2012, P.E.I. – Prince Edward Island's fire marshal has banned flying lanterns, and those who do not comply could face a hefty fine.
Dave Rossiter says the lanterns pose a fire hazard.
Fines for flying the lanterns range between 200-dollars to one-thousand-dollars.
Last week, Nova Scotia also banned the devices after several cases of fires that appeared to have been started by the lanterns.
