pierce-100years-hires_10848195Jan. 8, 2013 – Pierce Manufacturing has launched an interactive website to commemorate its 100th anniversary. The special site features an interactive historical timeline, a 100th anniversary video, a photo contest, limited-edition merchandise and information about upcoming events.

The company was founded in 1913 by Humphrey and Dudley Pierce in Appleton, W.I., as a builder of after-market bodies for Ford Model T chassis. Pierce said in a press release that it built its first fire truck body in 1939, and quickly grew from there. In 1958, the company designed the first articulating aerial apparatus and, in 1982, Pierce introduced its first custom chassis and body.

"Pierce is a company with humble beginnings, a rich history and an exciting future," said Jim Johnson, president of the fire and emergency segment of Pierce Manufacturing, in the press release.

"It is significant that only a small fraction of companies from any industry achieve the 100 year milestone."

In addition to building fire trucks, Pierce engineers and manufactures its own Husky foam system and Hercules compressed air foam system. The company also boasts more than 600 certified and factory-trained service technicians and more than 50 service centres across the United States.

In western and central Canada, Pierce trucks are distributed by WFR Wholesale Fire & Rescue, while Darch Fire delivers the company’s trucks in Ontario. In Quebec, L’Arsenal delivers Pierce trucks, and in the Maritimes, Micmac Fire & Safety distributes the company’s products.

"On behalf of Pierce employees, and all those who preceded us," Johnson continued, "we pledge an unwavering level of commitment to firefighters, and boldness in our thinking, as we look ahead to the next one hundred years."
