Oct. 11, 2013, London, Ont. – Police in London, Ont., have laid new charges in connection with a fatal house fire in mid-September.
Shane Alan Wood, 37, was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and committing an indignity to a human body, in addition to previously-laid charges of arson and break and enter.
The body of Paul Curry, 50, was found following a Sept. 16 fire inside a home.
Investigators say Curry and Wood were known to each other.
Police say the charge of committing an indignity to a human body is in relation to the deliberately set fire.
The latest charges against Wood come nearly a month after the incident, but Const. Ken Steeves says it took time to determine the exact cause of death.
"A lot had to be done, not only from the pathology standpoint but from other tests as well, such as toxicology and other things," Steeves said.
"We had to either exclude or essentially determine the exact cause of death before we were able to lay the charge."
