Fire Fighting in Canada

RCMP suspect arsonist in Saskatchewan

April 11, 2016, Punnichy, Sask. - Three suspicious fires that have destroyed a number of old farm buildings around a central Saskatchewan community have the RCMP seeking help from the public to solve the cases.

The first fire happened April 2 when a house, an outbuilding and a vehicle were destroyed in an uninhabited farmyard in the Punnichy area, southeast of Saskatoon.

A barn was burned at another unoccupied farmyard on April 7 before a house and an outbuilding were destroyed in a third uninhabited yard two days later.

There were no reports of injuries but the third fire resulted in flames spreading to a nearby field, where it took firefighters several hours to get them under control.

The properties are located in the rural municipalities of Cupar, Mount Hope and Touchwood.

Police say all the fires started during daylight hours and they're encouraging owners of properties where there are abandoned farmyards to check them for signs of suspicious activity.
