Oct. 11, 2013, Kindersley, Sask. – Officials are scaling back their response to a fire at the landfill in Kindersley, Sask.
Town officials have lifted an advisory that had instructed people within a kilometre of the blaze to avoid breathing in the smoke by keeping their windows closed.
Monitoring of the landfill will continue throughout the night and into Friday to ensure that hot spots remain suppressed.
However, a local state of emergency will remain in place so that the town may continue to access all the provincial resources available.
The town says that declaration will automatically expire within a week of being issued.
There are currently 49 personnel on site.
The fire began Monday night and the flames spread due to windy conditions.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
