May 8, 2013, Regina – Forty-eight Saskatchewan communities have asked the province for disaster assistance because of flooding.

The number comes as the Water Security Agency says overall water levels are going down across the province.

The agency had warned that the entire southern half of Saskatchewan would see high spring run-off levels and flooding was likely in many areas.

Deputy emergency management commissioner Colin King says there is some public perception that the flood threat has waned, but that's not the case.

Some lakes, particularly those in the Qu'Appelle Valley, will still rise over the next couple of weeks.

Fourteen communities remain under state-of-emergency declarations.
