Saskatoon ambulance service sold to Medavie
Dec. 9, 2013, Saskatoon - Saskatoon-based MD Ambulance will have a new owner starting New Year's Day. MD's board approved the company's sale to MedWest EMS, a subsidiary of Nova Scotia-based Medavie EMS, on Friday.

David Dutchak, president and CEO of MD Ambulance, said it was a tough decision to sell the company his father, Michael Dutchak, began in 1976.
MD Ambulance serves the greater Saskatoon area and will remain under contract with the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority.
Dutchak will continue as president and CEO of the company and he says no staff will be laid off.
Medavie EMS operates emergency services in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Alberta and Massachusetts.
"I have very mixed emotions today,'' said Dutchak, who began working as a dispatcher at MD when he was just 12.
"I'm very proud to have created this company with my father and to be part of this nationally recognized EMS team. It was a difficult decision, but I believe this move will provide our employees and our community with additional opportunities as part of an innovative, well-established company like Medavie EMS.''
Medavie EMS president Erik Sande said he was eager to work with Dutchak and the MD Ambulance team.
"This is an exciting acquisition for us at Medavie EMS as it represents an opportunity to work with another top-notch EMS service and it gives us greater presence in Western Canada,'' said Sande.
MD Ambulance, which serves the greater Saskatoon area, transports over 28,000 patients each year with 21 vehicles and 150 employees.
