Three bodies found after Montreal apartment fire

May 16, 2016, Montreal - Three bodies have now been removed from the ruins of a Montreal-area apartment building that was gutted by fire early Friday morning.

The three storey building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene around two o'clock in the morning.

A large part of the 24-unit complex had collapsed and severed a gas line, trapping 20 people on their balconies.

Authorities used ladders to rescue the tenants.

Eight people, including three children, were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and shock.

The early morning blaze leaves about 40 people homeless.

There was no immediate word on what caused the blaze.
