April 25, 2013, Boyle, Alta. – A crash involving a truck carrying potentially dangerous liquid nitrogen has injured two people and forced the closure of a highway north of Edmonton.

RCMP say two trucks collided Wednesday on Highway 831 and the drivers of both vehicles have been sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The two trucks are on their sides and hazardous material and fire crews are on the scene in the remote, sparsely populated area.

RCMP have closed about a 20 kilometre section of the road from Highway 661 to the community of Boyle.

Police say diesel fuel has spilled, some of the compressed nitrogen leaked and the cab of one of the trucks was burned in a fire.

RCMP say there is no danger of an explosion and officials from Alberta Environment and Alberta Transportation are investigating.
