March 7, 2014, Toronto – Two people are dead and two others are in critical condition following a residential fire overnight in Toronto.

Firefighters were called to the blaze Friday morning after smoke was seen coming from a building (on Dovercourt Road near Dupont).

The victims genders have not been released, but Division Commander Dan MacIsaac says they were aged in their 20s to 40s.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room and kitchen area of the second-floor residence.

MacIsaac said firefighters arrived to find the back of the second floor totally engulfed in flames and they had to battle through heavy black smoke.

He said the ground flood contained a vacant business.
