June 11, 2013, Lac du Bonnet, Man. – Two men have been injured in the crash landing of a small plane in eastern Manitoba.
An official at the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton in Ontario says the pilot and passenger left a private airstrip near Lac du Bonnet, Man., and quickly encountered mechanical problems.
The pilot tried to return to the airstrip, but couldn't make it and was forced to make a hard landing with the Cessna-180.
A man at the accident scene pulled the plane's occupants out of the aircraft and performed first aid.
The two were taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
A C-130 Hercules airplane had been dispatched from CFB Winnipeg, but it was called back after paramedics were able to reach the accident scene.
