The fire began in a seventh-floor unit in the building (at Dundas and Sherbourne streets) around 5:20 a.m. and officials say the flames were knocked down before 6 a.m.

Paramedics say one of the victims, a security guard, was assessed at the scene and refused to go to hospital.

The other person, believed to be the occupant of the unit, was taken to hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire or the cost of the damage.
