Aug. 22, 2013, Toronto – Two Toronto firefighters have been suspended after a published media report said they had posted sexist comments online.

Toronto Fire Chief Jim Sales has confirmed the suspension in a news conference today but says he won't comment on specific details of the case.

The suspended firefighters have been identified as Matt Bowman and Lawaun Edwards.

Sales says Toronto Fire has launched an internal investigation on what he called "a personnel matter."

He says he was made aware of the tweets from reports in the media.

The National Post first reported the controversial tweets in a story published Aug. 10.

Sales says social media is in the public realm and when Toronto Fire staff members use it, they should reflect a positive image.
