Jan. 4, 2008, The United States Fire Administration has released its annual report on line-of-duty deaths for 2007, during which the loss of nine firefighters in Charleston, N.C. marked the largest loss of firefighter lives since 9-11.

There were 115 line-of-duty deaths in the U.S. in 2007 compared to 105 the year before.
Heart attacks are still the leading killer of firefighters with stress and exertion also reported as leading causes of deaths.
