Sept. 25, 2020, Wainfleet, Ont. – The military service of John “Jack” Suess was cut short when folks at the Canadian Armed Forces discovered he had a heart murmur. And if he couldn’t wear the CAF uniform, Suess was determined to serve others in his home township of Wainfleet and beyond in other ways, said his son Dave Suess.
The elder Suess served no less than 40 years as a volunteer firefighter in Wainfleet, including 28 years as fire chief. He died at Port Colborne General Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the age of 83 after a long battle with heart and lung problems and more recently with kidney failure.
