June 26, 2013, Labrador City, N.L. – A provincial natural resources official in western Labrador says there has been progress in the battle against a forest fire near Wabush.

Chuck Porter says reduced winds and a heavy overnight frost has prevented the spread of the fire about 10 kilometres east of the town.

Porter says ground crews and water bombers will spend today dampening hot spots.

He says the blaze, which began Sunday, has burned about 6,000 hectares of forest.

Fifteen ground units, three water bombers and two helicopters are being used to suppress the flames.
