Winnipeg moves to increase rooming house inspections

July 12, 2016, Winnipeg - A plan for mandatory, annual inspections of Winnipeg rooming houses should be ready for implementation by the fall. While the deaths of two people in a rooming house fire last week revealed the lack of any requirements for mandatory inspections, Winston Yee, the city's manager of bylaw enforcement, told a civic committee Monday he has been working with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service since late April for a way to co-ordinate inspections by fire inspectors and bylaw officers.
