Toddler dies in Hamilton house fire
May 1, 2017, Hamilton, Ont. - A toddler has died in a house fire in Hamilton, Ont. Hamilton Fire spokesman Claudio Mostacci says crews responded to a call around 10 a.m. He says heavy smoke and flames billowed from a basement window of the home when firefighters arrived.
Once there, the toddler's mother, who made it outside, told firefighters about a child who remained inside. Mostacci says firefighters immediately went in and found the child, who was taken to hospital by paramedics and pronounced dead.
Hamilton Paramedic Service says they treated the child's mother for smoke inhalation and she is expected to make a full recovery. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.
