FireRein produces hand sanitizer for emergency services workers

April 14, 2020  – FireRein has stepped up to support emergency service workers through the COVID-19 pandemic by producing small batches of hand sanitizer for workers in three Ontario counties.

Following the guidelines established by the World Health Organization, to date, FireRein has made over five hundred bottles for Lennox & Addington, Hastings and Frontenac Counties.

“FireRein was founded on the principal of keeping communities safe,” said FireRein President Quincy Emmon. “Doing what we can to help those continuing to serve the community through this pandemic is the least we can do.”

The initiative, he said, wouldn’t have been possible without partnerships.

“FireRein brought together several community partners to source the correct ingredients to make the hand sanitizer.”

Emmon said TCO Agromart Ltd., Burke’s Printing and St. Lawrence College were quick to join in the effort.

“We commend Firerein for doing this,” said Terry O’Neill of TCO Agromart Ltd. “We are glad we could help. We understand that we are all in this together and we all need to do our part to get through this crisis of COVID-19. When the whole community pulls together, we are always better for it.”

Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO, St. Lawrence College said they will also help in any way we can in the fight against COVID-19. He also recognized Shannon Claggett, Associate Dean of Applied Science and Computing for coordinating the collection of Isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide from their Advanced Biotechnology program for FireRein’s production of hand sanitizers.

Duncan Burke, president and founder of Burke Printing said he was happy to take part in the project.

“We applaud FireRein for taking the initiative to do this and we thank them for offering us a small part in it,” said Burke.

“We are all in this together in the fight against COVID-19 and coming together like this, truly is what makes us a community,” he said.

FireRein confirmed they will continue to produce hand sanitizer as ingredients are made available.
