Nov. 29, 2013, Newmarket, Ont. – A man is facing several charges, including an arson charge, after firefighters rescued a woman from the basement of a burning home north of Toronto.

York Regional Police say they responded to a 911 call in the town of East Gwillimbury on Thursday and once on the scene, police and firefighters found black smoke billowing from the home.

Most of those inside managed to get out of the smoke-filled house but told police that a woman was still in the basement.

Firefighters entered the home and rescued a 32-year-old woman. No one was injured.
