Man, five year old child die after high rise apartment fire

June 17, 2013, Edmonton – Two people, including a five-year-old child, have died following a high-rise apartment fire in Edmonton.

Police say the child and a man in his 40s were among seven people taken to hospital after the fire was sparked Sunday morning.

It started on the 8th floor of a building in the Oliver neighbourhood, just west of downtown.

Firefighters rescued many residents through their smoke-filled windows and got them down on ladders.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
