The Newfoundland and Labrador government is introducing a new web tool intended to improve communication with the public before, during and after disaster.

A new emergency preparedness webpage will be activated through www.gov.nl.ca to serve as a single source of information on an imminent major emergency.

The Justice and Public Safety department announced the tool yesterday in a news release urging residents to be prepared in advance of peak hurricane season.

John Hogan, N.F.L. Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, said in the release the tool will help equip residents to stay safe and be prepared.

β€œRecent major storms and fires in Newfoundland and Labrador, and across the world, have shown the importance of preparing residents to deal with increasingly frequent weather-related emergencies. By being prepared and visiting our website for accurate information, we are equipping Newfoundlanders and Labradorians with the tools to stay safe and be prepared,” Hogan said.

The province also urged residents to share their knowledge about emergency preparedness and to help support each other, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities, people with limited resources or persons who identify they need support for emergencies.
