This latest group of 19 firefighters goes to the area a day after a 26-person crew returned to New Brunswick following their deployment on May 11th.

They helped fight a 500-square-kilometre fire in Sweeney Creek, which was brought under control with the help of a 25-centimetre snowfall earlier this week.

That team included incident management members and a representative of the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

A massive wildfire that spread into Fort McMurray on May 3rd has destroyed 24-hundred buildings.

More than 80-thousand residents were forced from the community.

It’s estimated that 52-hundred square kilometres have burned, with 16 wildfires still burning.

There are about 19-hundred firefighters battling wildfires in Alberta.
