The initial fire was in a vacant building on Lancaster Avenue but the blaze affected buildings on either side.

The Canadian Red Cross says it has become involved and is providing alternative accomodations for the residents.

The fire initially caused a loss of power to people living on the block, after electricity was cut to the street.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
