July 23, 2013, Prince George, B.C. – One person has suffered what are believed to be minor burns in an explosion and small fire at the Carrier Lumber mill near Prince George, B.C.

The victim was taken to hospital as a precaution late Monday afternoon, following the blast, which occurred at about 4:15 p.m., at the site south of the city.

Carrier Lumber president Bill Kordyban says there was an explosion in a pipe which carries chips from the mill to the blower building, next door.

He says about 20 people were in the mill at the time, but all the employees will be okay.

The blast came on the same day as work began to rebuild the Lakeland Mill, at its site on the Prince George outskirts.

That facility was levelled by an explosion and fire last April, killing two workers.
