Power outage at Suncor oilsands site leads to increased flaring

April 25, 2014, Fort McMurray, Alta. – Suncor says a power outage has led to increased flaring at its oilsands sites in northern Alberta.

The energy company says the outage occurred Thursday afternoon north of Fort McMurray.

Spokeswoman Sneh Seetal says initial reports that suggested a fire had broken out at one location were inaccurate.

Employees and contractors have been moved out of the areas and Seetal says a team is working to find out what caused the power outage.

An emergency plan is in place and no one has been hurt.
