Search called off for missing Newfoundland hunter

Feb. 1, 2013, Stephenville, N.L. – RCMP in western Newfoundland have called off the recovery effort for a missing hunter off the Port au Port Peninsula.

Richard Duffney was reported missing on Monday morning after failing to return home from a duck hunting trip.

Police say the investigation into what happened to the missing 50-year-old man will remain open.

They are offering their thanks to a number of groups involved in the search and recovery effort including local search and rescue teams, the joint rescue co-ordination centre in Halifax, the 103 Rescue Squadron and Fire and Emergency services.
