Nov. 16, 2011, Kelowna, B.C. – Three Okanagan residents have escaped an overnight fire that destroyed their home in Kelowna's Rutland neighbourhood.

Although the trio made it out just before midnight, firefighters had to act quickly to rescue two dogs trapped in the detached garage behind the home (in the 11-hundred block of Morrison Road.)

No one was hurt and no other homes in the rural neighbourhood are affected.

A cause of the fire is not yet confirmed but investigators say it does not appear suspicious – and they are reminding homeowners with wood burning appliances to ensure chimneys are cleaned and inspected regularly.
