May 7, 2013, Regina – Three people with burns to the arms and face had to be taken to hospital after an explosion at a Regina home.

Acting deputy fire chief Rollie Gemmell says crews got a call Monday night about the blast at a small house in the Cathedral neighbourhood.

Police say someone was using butane to heat cooking oil.

The gas drifted down the stairs and was ignited by the furnace.

Police say the explosion cracked walls, lifted the roof off the house and knocked the building askew on its foundation.

Gemmell says there was just a bit of smoke left by the time crews arrived.

Daryl Eberhardt, who lives half a block away, says she could feel the explosion when it happened.

"I came out to look and all the fire trucks were coming and there were people. . .down the street," she said.
