Nancy Shaddick, a Hydro One spokeswoman, said the storm knocked out electricity for about 55,000 customers.

The high winds that toppled the stage at Ottawa's Bluesfest also knocked down trees and power lines across the area Sunday night.

Shaddick says the hardest hit areas are Arnprior, Cobden, Orleans, Perth and Winchester.

She says crews are working through the night to restore power.

The storm had Ottawa Fire Services busy in other parts of the capital as well.

The department says crews responded to calls for help from boaters, people trapped in elevators as well as dealing with a fire.

In all there were more than 160 storm-related calls.
