Dec. 2, 2013, London, Ont. – Police say an arson suspect was found dead a short distance from a house fire in the west end of London, Ont.

No details about the suspect have been released, including his name, age or hometown and police say the cause of his death is still under investigation.

Firefighters and police were called to a home (near Oxford and Woodward Avenue) at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, and arrived to find the fire underway.

Police say it's believed the suspect set fire to the home, and while trying to flee in a vehicle nearly struck two pedestrians before crashing into a snow bank.

The vehicle was abandoned by the driver, who was found dead a short distance away after a brief search by the K9 unit.

Const. Alanna Hollywood says the people who were inside the home were able to make it out safely but one of them was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation and fire officials haven't released a damage estimate. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was also at the scene on Sunday and was expected to return Monday to continue the investigation.
