Fire dispatcher Nick Chapman says crews were called around suppertime on Tuesday night.
Twenty firefighters, three engines and a ladder truck responded to what was described a structure fire in a chip treatment building.
The fire threatened to spread to other buildings but officials said it was under control. No injuries were reported but it's not known what impact the fire will have on the mill's operations.
Prince George officials were hoping to begin pumping water heated by the mill's steam plants into the Nechako River as soon as possible to help break up an ice jam that's been causing problems for the last month. (CHNL)
