Dec. 17, 2013, Kingston, Ont. – A helicopter from CFB Trenton has rescued a man who was trapped on a construction crane by a massive fire in midtown Kingston, Ont.

The crane operator was stranded atop the crane when fire broke out in an apartment building under construction (on Princess Street at Victoria Street).

Dozens of firefighters are battling the blaze that started on Tuesday afternoon.

Kingston police say a home near the burning building has caught fire and there is concern for the nearby Howard Johnson hotel as well.

Fire crews also fear the fire could threaten a nearby gas station and a public school a few blocks away has been evacuated.

Power has been shut down in the area of the fire to make it safe for those battling the fire.
