Aug. 29, 2023, Squamish, B.C. – The District of Squamish has appointed Aaron Foote as its new fire chief.
Foote has been serving the community for 32 years, originally joining Squamish Fire Rescue as a volunteer firefighter in 1990 before moving to a career position in 2012. He has been the deputy fire chief since 2016.
During his career, Foote has been responsible for numerous positive contributions to Squamish Fire Rescue including playing a lead role in the design and delivery of Squamish’s two new fire halls, as well as modernization efforts including improving the fleet and communications systems for the department.
Foote was awarded the Governor General Fire Services Exemplary Service medal in 2021 for his 30 years of dedicated service to the Squamish Fire Rescue team.
“I am excited to take on this role in the department and ensure that we continue to provide exceptional service to our growing community,” said Foote in a press release.
Foote took command of the fire department on Aug. 17, and replaced outgoing Fire Chief Bill Stoner, who was recently appointed as the district’s general manager of community services.
