Dozens evacuated after damage to gas line
Jan. 26, 2016, Edmonton - Dozens of people were forced from their homes when an overnight crash in Edmonton snapped a natural gas line.
Emergency officials say the accident happened just before midnight in a northeast neighbourhood where a sport-utility vehicle slammed into a small service building that houses the line.
The resulting leak led to a precautionary evacuation of 20 nearby townhouses involving about 60 people.
Several roads in the area were also closed.
There were no reports of injuries.
Repair crews and firefighters remained at the scene for several hours after the accident.
