Fire marshal looking into fatal house fire

Toronto - Firefighters believe a house fire that led to the death of a middle-aged man in Toronto may have occurred at an illegal rooming house.

Toronto Fire Services responded to the fire just after midnight on Sunday.

They say the fire started on the second floor.

Firefighters say six people lived in the home and an unidentified man believed to be in his 40s was found on the third floor of the building without vital signs.

Firefighters performed CPR on the unidentified victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is forthcoming and the Ontario Fire Marshall is investigating along with fire prevention inspectors who will determine if the alleged illegal rooming house had working smoke detectors and fire exits.
