Jan. 19, 2012, Alberta – Firefighters from across Canada will be participating in rooftop campouts in February and March in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Firefighter participants endure freezing temperatures, inclement weather, and whatever else nature throws their way during the campouts in an effort to raise funds and awareness for muscular dystrophy. Local celebrities and dignitaries often appear at the events to help get the word out about neuromuscular disorders.

The rooftop campout program was introduced in Alberta seven years ago as another way for firefighters to challenge their communities to raise awareness and funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Rooftop campouts have since expanded to various cities across Canada. There will be events in Edmonton, Strathcona County, Leduc, St. Albert and Spruce Grove, Alta., from Feb. 21-24. Additional rooftop campouts are planned for Winnipeg (March 13-16), Medicine Hat, Alta. (March 16-18), Fort McMurray, Alta. (March 28-31) and Saskatoon (date TBA).
