Firefighters injured battling five-alarm blaze

June 30, 2016, Toronto - Toronto firefighters spent the night Wednesday battling a stubborn and smoky blaze in a row of businesses just west of the downtown core.

The five-alarm fire started at about 11:30 p.m. in an art and framing shop (on Dundas near Bathurst) and spread to some adjoining stores packed tightly together.

Tenants in apartments above the businesses all made it out safely.

Two of the approximately 100 firefighters at the scene suffered minor injuries after reportedly falling from a ladder.

Fire department division commander Bob O’Hallarn says the fire was in an older building and difficult to extinguish.

The Fire Marshal has been called in to seek the cause of the blaze.
