Four hospitalized after house explosion

Feb. 24, 2015, Waterville, N.S. - Four people were taken to hospital Tuesday after an explosion tore through a home in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley.

Waterville Fire Chief Wayne Johnstone said it's unclear what caused the blast.

Smoke was pouring out of the home on Porter Lane when firefighters arrived after 1 a.m., but Johnstone said there was no fire.

There were three adults and three children inside at the time of the explosion, he said.

The children and one adult were taken to hospital to be treated for undetermined injuries, but Johnstone said all were conscious and alert when they were picked up by ambulances.

He said the two-storey home was badly damaged.

"There was total destruction in the house," Johnstone said in an interview. "It shook the house big time."
