Sept. 19, 2023, Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia is giving first responders $1.5 million to upgrade fire fighting equipment.

Eighty organizations will receive grants through the province’s Emergency Services Provider Fund, which is available to fire departments, ground search and rescue organizations and hazardous materials teams.

“Every member in our department wants to help the community. They want to contribute, to be helpful to their neighbours. Getting the proper equipment to do that safely is huge,” said Fire Chief Jeff Skaling of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department.

The program provides up to 75 per cent of eligible costs, up to a maximum of $20,000 per organization.
